This glossary defines commonly used dermatitis terms, including products and medications used in the treatment of dermatitis and other skin conditions that co-exist with dermatitis, such as acne, rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis.

Tar treatment: treatment consisting of chemicals related to coal tar used topically to reduce itching.

T cell: a white blood cell of the immune system that participates in a number of immune responses.

Telangiectasis: (pronounced tell-an-jek-taze-yah) damaged or dilated facial blood vessels, often visible on the surface of the skin.

Temovate®: by Glaxo Welcome, (Clobetasol) a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. Also sold under the brand name(s): Cormax®, Embeline™ E.

Tetracycline: an oral antibiotic. Also sold under the brand name(s): Panmycin®, Tetracyn®, Robitet®, Achromycin V®, Sumycin®

Tetracyn®: an oral antibiotic. Also sold under the brand name(s): Panmycin®, Tetracyline, Robitet®, Achromycin V®, Sumycin®

Tolerance: a state of immunologic unresponsiveness to a substance that would otherwise provoke an immune response.

Topical: designed for or involving local application on the surface of the body.

Topical immunomodulators (TIMS): a new class of drugs in development that show promise for the treatment of moderately severe eczema.

Topical Steroids: Topical steroids are generally used to treat the symptoms of eczema, a skin condition characterized by itchy, red, scaly skin. They are also used for other inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis. They don't cure the conditions but can ease the symptoms
Toxicodendron Dermatitis: allergic contact reaction to a plant such as poison ivy, or poison oak.

Trigger: a non-genetic, environmental factor that causes the onset or worsening of psoriasis. Injuries and infections are common triggers.

Topicort LP®: by Hoechst, (Desoximetasone), a high potency steroid
Tretinoin: the generic name for Retin-A, a topical Vitamin A acid.

Trichloroacetic acid peel: a deep chemical peel consisting of a high concentration of trichloroacetic acid (TCA), which burns, when applied.

Tridesilon®: By Bayer, (Desonide) –a low to medium-potency topical anti-inflammatory corticosteroid; reduces irritation and itching on the affected areas of the skin. Also sold under the brand name(s): DesOwen® Topical; Desocort®
